![]() This Launcher is a good one to get started on, there are much more elaborate ones, but this one does a surprisingly good job. Launcher- this will include just the necessary parts, there are many ways to configure your launcher, and those ideas will be described later. This is the list of parts needed, all of them were found at Tom Brown Hardware Store (great place, they have everything), but they should be available at any local store. -Schrader valve, since they come in many different thread sizes, it will be up to you to find the enlargement pieces to fit the PVC pipe. - 1/2 inch PVC piping (Rated over 130 PSI). - Another piece of PVC that will fit snugly inside the 1/2 piece. - 1 PVC elbow. - PVC Primer and Glue, any brand. - 20 medium cable ties, about 8 inches long by 1/8 inch wide. - Hot glue gun, and glue. - A saw that will cut the PVC. - O-ring to create a seal between pipe and bottleneck. - A base, you can design it to fit your needs. *Before you buy the PVC piping, be sure that it slides through a 2-liter bottleneck. *Follow all the instructions carefully on the PVC glue that you use, it may effect the strength of the joint. Cut a 10 inch piece of PVC from the 3/4 inch piece, prime and glue the elbow onto one end of the 10 inch piece. While the glue is drying, cut 4 inches of the piece of smaller PVC that fits into the ¾ inch, then cut another 11 inches from the ¾ inch piping, prime the inside of the ¾ inch pieces, and the outside of the smaller piece, then apply glue, and push the small piece into the larger pieces, leaving a small space between the large pieces of PVC just big enough for your O-ring to fit in. All this will basically create a notch for the O-ring to fit in, keeping it from sliding up the tube during launching. (NOTE: The O-ring should be large enough to create a tight seal between the PVC and the bottle.) [place “finished O-ring notch” here.] Now, after everything is set, get out the cable ties and a 2 liter bottle. Measure the distance from the top of the notch that the cable ties hold to the end. Slide the bottle down the launch tube until it is about half an inch from the top of the bottle and the O-ring is in the middle of the neck. Mark a line around the neck of the bottle: [place “ marking pic” here] Make a second mark where the notch would be (you measured the distance earlier) and glue a cable tie so the bottom of the squire piece is on the second line. Put the rest of the cable ties around the launch tube and secure them with a rubber band. One by one line them up with the first cable tie and glue them in place. Use two extra cable ties to secure the others, one near the bottom, one near the top, and glue those in place. Everything else is personal preference, but here are some ideas. Use about a foot of the surplus PVC and glue it into the elbow and then put the Shrader valve on that piece, this will make it easier to hook up your pump or compressor. You could also get another valve to use to fill the rocket with water when it is on the launcher, highly recommended. Finaly, now that the piping is done, the base can be made.
